Who is Jane Mugo?
Jane, is the Chief Executive of Bingwa SACCO Ltd, (formerly Kirinyaga Tea Growers SACCO Ltd)
Why were you awarded Head of State Commendation?
I have worked tirelessly for my county and country at large by encouraging women to be independent through savings in cooperatives for their children’s education and personal development and also educating farmers on the benefits of cooperative societies.
You have established over 18 branches, how did you manage this?
Many factors have led to my achievements in establishing the 18 branches: First it’s through the intervention of God for giving me good health and energy to work tirelessly, employing qualified and experienced staff and through team work with the board, staff and the members of Bingwa SACCO.
In this year Mashujaa celebrations, you were declared a shujaa, how did you feel and what have you done so far to deserve the title?
I owe this to God. Through my good leadership, Bingwa SACCO Society has been able to be awarded the following National Awards Since 2009:- Best managed farmers SACCO, Best in loaning services/ credit management farmers sacco, highest dividend/ interest rates farmers rural sector, highest depositors with Cooperative Bank, and best insured SACCO.
Other awards are lowest expenditure (rural / farmers category), best in training and education services (farmers/ rural category), best capitalized SACCO, best in risk management and best innovative Sacco.
Your achievements so far?
Through my leadership, I have seen Bingwa Sacco grow from a small organisation to a giant Sacco, Increased membership from 2,000 in the year 1993 to 150,000 currently, branches increased from one to 18 branches. I have increased the loan portfolio from Sh1 million to Sh13billion. Currently, the asset worth has increased from Sh100Million to Sh4.3billion and we are rated as the best dividend paying bank in Kenya.

Other successful ladies who lead large international cooperative societies like the USA, UK and Canada among others.
